Lisa beat me to the punch with a blog post. But she and I went on a nice little hike at Riverside State Park today. I told her next time I’ll taker her on a hike that old, fat people can’t also go on. Perhaps some elevation gain.
Regardless, we naturally took some pictures. She’s already posted most of the best, but here are a few unappreciated gems.
Lisa also blogged about this. We took a little visit today to the Spokane Falls downtown, where floodwaters are gushing over the cliffs in mindboggling volumes. Seriously, just standing at the viewpoint and watching the water was a little dizzying.
I took a page out of Jacob’s book and took some video with my cell phone. You don’t get the full effect, but it’s an idea.
Of course, we couldn’t help but also take pictures.
Lisa and I have been referring to it as “Wikiwandering.” It’s when you look up something on Wikipedia and wind up navigating the website for hours, clicking link after link, as curiosity determines. Don’t tell me you haven’t found yourself on the Zeppelin entry after four hours on Wikipedia that started with the Freemasonry entry. (Uh, I swear I didn’t do that!)
The only rule here is that I have to follow links; I can’t just decide at some point to search for something completely unrelated.
Anyway…. Without further ado, behold! My most recent Wikiwandering adventure
Lisa decided to come to Spokane with me today. I had to report on a state quarterfinal high school boys soccer game. And indeed, it was the first 90-plus day of the year. And sunny.
So, we roasted. We sat in the sun for only two hours, but we look like we lounged around all day. Now we’re back in my air-conditioned Pullman apartment, putting on aloe vera.
The picture below is Lisa on the drive home, covering herself with a sweater to ward away the evil sunlight.
UPDATED 10 p.m.
Shoot! I should have updated while in Seattle, so I could use a Seattle dateline. Well, the trip was too fun to muddle up with blogging.
To make a long story short, Lisa and I drove to Seattle for the weekend. The motivation was two-fold: 1) to surprise my mom on Mother’s Day, and 2) to get away from Pullman for a change. We were successful on both accounts.
I have little to say here, because Lisa has all the photos, except that we went and we had fun. A little family time, a little time with friends, a little time exploring the city, a little time running (and falling), a little (a lot of?) time showing Lisa my old rowing waters.
That reminds me: I did take one picture, when we were out on the coach’s launch (my friend Bigelow coaches at our old rowing club) during crew practice Monday. The rigger on this Hudson double snapped (along a repair weld). This rarely happens; I’d never seen it before. Before it broke, this shell also flipped with two novice rowers in it. They got back in and ended up shivering the rest of practice.
I mentioned a few posts ago my original Spokane apartment fell through. Here’s what happened.
ACT 1: Last week, the landlord called me to find out what I was thinking. I told her I really liked the apartment, but I was wondering if I could split May rent with them, since I wouldn’t need to move in until about a week before June 1. She said she’d have to check with her husband, but if he said yes would I commit to the apartment? I said yes.
A few minutes later, she called back and said I could pay half May rent. Awesome. Done deal. Under the above agreement, the place was mine.
All I needed to do, she said, was fill out an application and send her a check. She said I could fax it, but when I told her I’d be up in Spokane for Bloomsday, she said that was great and I could drop it all by then. (more…)
I took a day trip up to Spokane today to check out four apartments I found on Craigslist. If you don’t remember, I’m moving back to the big metropolis.
My current place in Pullman has spoiled me a bit. I’m not looking at apartment complexes or buildings that have more than three units in them. And I’m looking for two-bedroom apartments that have a dishwasher and on-site laundry machines. A nice kitchen, a nice bathroom and a balcony/deck/patio are also preferred.
All of the apartments I checked out today were on the South Hill. I’ve decided I don’t want to live back in Browne’s Addition. While my time there might have been fairly short, I feel I’ve been there, done that. (more…)

Lisa has already documented this, but she, Christina and I went on a beautiful hike Friday up Kamiak Butte. It was the first nice day of spring, so we thought we’d take advantage of it. Instead of describing it in words, I will just post a few pictures — courtesy of Lisa.
